We are Herndon Modern Dentistry

The staff at Herndon Modern Dentistry are friendly and personable. The people at the front desk always greet me warmly, and Dr. Hatem and the hygienists are kind. I genuinely appreciate that personal touch and the overall welcoming environment. That said, I’ve had a few experiences that make me feel it’s important to advocate for yourself here. I’m often presented with optional treatments that can total $1,000+ (medications for early decay, irrigation, etc.), and the explanations sometimes lean toward worst-case scenarios, which can feel overwhelming. I understand they want to be thorough, but it can come across as pressure. Their attitude also often changes after you decline the expensive services. I typically double-check recommendations with my uncle, who owns his own dental practice, and he often reassures me that some of these services aren’t necessary. I also recently had a frustrating experience with retainers. At the beginning of January, I paid $500 for a new top and bottom retainer/mouth guard set and was told they’d be ready in about two weeks. After the two-week mark passed, I called to check on them and was told they had actually already arrived, but no one had contacted me. When I picked them up, the top fit perfectly, but the bottom was very loose. The hygienist even mentioned it was too loose for her liking and said she would have the lab remake it. About a week later, I received a call asking if I was okay with my current retainer, which was confusing since she had already acknowledged it didn’t fit properly. I was then told the lab couldn’t make it fit tighter, which didn’t make sense to me because my previous retainer from another Smile Generation office had fit perfectly (it just had holes in it from wear, which is why I needed a replacement). After further discussion, the lab agreed to adjust it, and about a week or two later I was brought in to try two new options — both of which fit perfectly. While I’m glad it was ultimately resolved, the process left me without a properly fitting retainer for over a month. For someone who has invested in multiple rounds of dental work to achieve straight teeth, that was nerve-wracking. Overall, the team is kind and professional, but I would encourage patients to ask questions, take time to consider recommendations, and feel empowered to decline services they don’t truly need.
